Knee Pain

Knee pain is a common medical symptom that can be caused by a variety of factors, including injury, overuse, arthritis, and other medical conditions. Knee pain can range from mild discomfort to severe pain that limits mobility. Treatment for knee pain will depend on the underlying cause of the pain.

:: Symptoms of Knee Pain
Symptoms can vary depending on the cause of the pain, but may include:
  • Pain in the knee joint, which may be sharp or dull
  • Swelling or inflammation around the knee
  • Stiffness or limited range of motion in the knee joint
  • A popping or cracking sound when moving the knee
  • Redness or warmth around the knee
  • Difficulty bearing weight on the affected leg
:: Treatment for Knee Pain
The treatment for knee pain will depend on the underlying cause of the pain.

:: Some common treatments include:
  • Rest and Ice: Resting the affected knee and applying ice can help to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.
  • Medications: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
  • Physical Therapy: Physical therapy can help to improve range of motion and strengthen the muscles around the knee joint.
  • Knee Braces or Supports: Wearing a knee brace or support can help to provide additional support to the knee joint and reduce pain.
  • Injections: Corticosteroid injections can be used to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain in the knee joint.
  • Regenerative therapies: Ultrasound guided platelet rich plasma injection for cartilage regrowth viscosupplementation, prolotherapy.
  • Surgery: In some cases, surgery may be necessary to treat knee pain. Surgery may be required to repair a torn ligament or meniscus, or to replace a damaged knee joint.
  • Radiofrequency ablation(RFA): Genicular nerve RFA.

:: When to Seek Medical Attention
If you are experiencing severe or persistent knee pain, it is important to seek medical attention. Additionally, if you have other symptoms such as fever, redness or warmth around the knee, or difficulty bearing weight on the affected leg, seek medical attention immediately. These symptoms could indicate a serious medical condition (red flags) that requires prompt treatment.
